Clinics & Services

The surgery runs several clinics which patients can book an appointment for, such as a well person check. The surgery also runs clinics to monitor various conditions such as asthma, diabetes in adults, adult heart disease and emphysema & chronic bronchitis. In addition, the surgery provides contraceptive checks and the nurses are able to perform cervical smears.

Midwife/Maternity Clinic

Our practice nurses are able to see your children from newborn to two years of age to administer immunisations. 

Our midwife, Angela Leech, holds weekly antenatal clinics on Wednesday afternoon. If you have a positive pregnancy test, please ask at reception for further information regarding your first visit appointment and how to obtain your Pregnancy Information Pack.

Ladies hoping to conceive, or in early pregnancy, are advised to obtain folic acid supplements from a pharmacy.

Baby/Child Immunisation Clinic

Our practice nurses are able to see your children from newborn to two years of age to administer immunisations.

We recommend full immunisation for all pre-school children commencing at 2 months. The vaccination schedule can be found by clicking here.

Community Psychiatric Nurse Clinic

Our CPN holds clinics here at The Birches on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and can offer advice and support with a range of mental health issues. A referral is needed from a doctor or nurse, so please discuss this  if you would like to know more about gaining access to this service

Chronic Disease Management Clinics

Nurse Paula has received additional training to undertake the monitoring of chronic disease management such as Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma COPD and Stroke

As part of these clinics she can offer lifestyle advice and health promotion.

Cervical Smears

All women age 25 to 65 are invited to attend for a cervical smear. From 25 years to 49 years women are invited to attend every 3 years from 50 years to 64 years women are invited to attend every 5 years. It is recommended to attend when invited. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK SMEAR TESTS UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD A A WRITTEN REQUEST TO DO SO. IF YOU ARE OVER 64 YEARS OR BELIEVE YOU MAY NEED A TEST INBETWEEN ROUTINE SCREENING DATES PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINMENT TO SEE A NURSE PRACTITIONER OR GP.

Chlamydia Screening

Our nurses are able to offer free testing kits to all 14 years to 25 years to test for and treat Chlamydia. This is an easily spread sexually transmitted infection, usually showing no symptoms at first but is very easy to treat.

Other services available from our nurses include ear syringing, dressings and wound care and contraceptive services.

Practice Healthcare Assistant Services

We have one healthcare assistant who is  trained in phlebotomy (taking blood samples) ECG’s, blood pressures, new patient health checks and running the New Health Checks. These checks are for patients aged 40 to 74 who are identified as being at risk of Coronary Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Stroke or Diabetes. At this 20 minute consultation each patient will receive a personal health statement of their own potential risk factor. Patients who already have these conditions will not be invited to attend. PLEASE BE AWARE WE HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER OF BLOOD TEST APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE, IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO BOOK A BLOOD TEST AT THE SURGERY PHLEBOTOMY SERVICES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE PHLEBOTOMY CLINIC ON LANDSEER ROAD AND AT IPSWICH HOSPITAL.
